Show Off Your Toes with Flip Flop Shoes
My husband and I have a dear friend who is known as Shoes. He got the nickname because he doesn’t wear them. He usually wears flip flops, and he wears them all year long.
This is unusual for a person who lives in the north eastern part of the country but Shoes is known for imagining that he lives in Florida. The only time I have seen his toes covered is when he was attending a special occasion and when there was significant snow on the ground.
We have a daughter who is getting married and in honor of her father she is wearing wedding flip flops under her gown. She is very tall and she definitely does not want to wear heels. She thinks that wedding flip flops are perfect because she is the same height as her fiancée. She can wear the sandals without towering over her new husband.
This choice of footwear is unusual for a bride, but we were very surprised to find the sandals available at the bridal store. There were beautifully decorated thongs covered in sequence and I almost wished that I had thought of wearing them when I was a bride.
When she tried on her gown with the flip flops on, the salesperson mentioned that her gown would not need to be shortened or lengthened. The sandals were perfect for her height.
There are a couple drawbacks
to wearing flip flops under your wedding gown.
I keep thinking about the
sound that the thongs make as you walk.

Hopefully, the wedding march music will cover up the slapping sounds coming from under her gown. When I expressed this concern to the bride, she just laughed. She really was not bothered by the idea.
She also wasn’t bothered by the fact that she can’t wear any stockings under her gown. The flip flops are held in place by a strap that goes in between the big toe and the second toe.
She argued that since her wedding is in June, she wasn’t planning on wearing stockings anyway. The wedding flip flops seem to be perfect for her.
Now the only obstacle we face is keeping the wedding flip flops a secret from Shoes. The bride wants to wait until right before the father-daughter dance to reveal her sandals to her dad. They are a sentimental addition to the reception festivities. They add a very personal touch to a very unique relationship.
So, now you know what's under her wedding dress ... Flip Flops !!!
